As a vibrant democratic nation, PNG has an interest in providing support to international peacekeeping and peace enforcement efforts, particularly in its immediate neighbourhood of the South Pacific region. The PNGDF has demonstrated an ability to contribute positively to regional security through its successful involvement in RAMSI.

The PNGDF has not yet been involved in an international peacekeeping operation under UN auspices, however, the expected passage of the proposed ‘Troop Abroad Legislation’ should enable this to occur in a timely manner when the Government deems it appropriate.  Contributions to overseas operations require standing Status of Forces and logistic support agreements with our regional security partners.
